University of Maryland University College (UMUC)Asiaseeks a Technical Support Specialist. The Technical Support Specialist (TSS) reports to the Technical Support Manager and is responsible for supporting UMUC academic and administrative computing operations. Required duties/activities to be accomplished by the Technical Support Specialist are listed below:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Install, configure, hardware, software, networking and peripheral equipment

  • Troubleshoot above mentioned systems via telephone and remote support

  • Upgrade and maintain systems via remote control, mail, service trips and temporary duty assignments

  • Work with technicians and service providers, Enrollment Specialists, students, monitors and NTC coordinators

  • Assist in implementation, distribution, and support of new IT technology systems to faculty, staff, field staff, and students

  • Assist in maintaining and deploying PC-based systems, including installing and repairing computer hardware, software, and peripherals on workstations, special-application systems, mobile devices, and laptops

  • Provide traditional level one computer Help Desk support to UMUC faculty, students and staff via telephone, email, remote access, and office visits

  • Maintain and operate videoconferencing equipment

  • Maintain electronic devices and equipment issued to employees

  • Other job-related duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Ability to obtain a validUSFJdriver’s license

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • Strong technical skills

  • Strong communication skills to work with the stateside IT team and third parties to ensure all systems run effectively

  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks with minimum supervision

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure

  • Successful applicants must be able to pass a background check and meet requirements for individual logistic support (ILS)

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Japan language skills

  • Some college coursework

  • 1 (one) year experience in IT Help Desk

WHO MAY APPLY:Applicants with individual logistical support (ILS) preferred. Applicant must qualify for ILS. Criteria under which applicants qualify for ILS are: must serve the US Forces exclusively; are not stateless persons; are not ordinarily resident in the host nation.
