OBJECTIVE: Build, manage and lead a portfolio function for investing balance sheet assets for insurers and banks in Japan. While the focus will be on fixed income mandates, the candidate should have the capability to guide clients to broad portfolio solutions (fixed income, equities and alternatives). Collaborate with our Institutional Client Business (ICB) Relationship Managers (RMs) and work with clients to build the preeminent balance sheet management business in the region.
Build and lead a portfolio management team and process that can manage balance sheet assets for Japan based insurers and banks. Portfolio lead will coordinate with active and passive global investment teams to deliver complete breadth of fixed income solutions to client.
Interpret client objectives with RMs and design solutions to achieve goals.
Responsibility for generating investment performance, as defined by client, which meets or exceeds expectations.
Identify attractive global investment opportunities on a JPY hedged basis.
Clear and constant communication with functional and regional managers.
Close working relationship with Product Strategists and ICB Relationship Managers (RMs) with respect to existing relationships.
Work closely with ICB colleagues in cultivating new clients.
Team up with Product Strategists to vet incoming client requests for feasibility of success for the clients and for BlackRock.
Generate market views and content for use with clients, prospects and internal constituencies. Convey views of key investors in BlackRock to clients and prospects.
Raise and maintain profile of BLK FIG business.
Effective working relationships and regular communication with clients.
Participate in the internal risk management process surrounding client portfolios and suggest improvements.
Assess adequacy of team and internal processes/tools to manage portfolios and achieve client objectives.
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal constituencies and build a strong business franchise.
Engagement with clients at high levels.
Deliver investment performance as defined by the client.
Strong knowledge of global credit markets and conversancy in other sectors.
Knowledge of currency and duration hedging techniques.
Ability to listen and tailor mandates to client objectives including yield targets, gains/losses, turnover, hedging requirements and information flow.
Keen attention to detail in structuring mandates and onboarding. Need to be responsive to client wishes but at the same time guide them to appropriate and feasible outcomes.
Work closely with internal risk teams and credit research to monitor portfolios and make improvements as needed.
Comfort with functional and regional reporting structure and interacting within a global organization and multiple time zones.
Team building and partnership skills.
Receptivity to firm culture and ability to promote same.
English language fluency, Japanese language is not required
